We hope you had
a pleasant 4th of July Holiday! As we begin to prepare for a
new school year, there is much activity related to the distribution of
ARRA funds.
To assist with ARRA proposals and the development of new training
programs, we are pleased to announce the release of our statewide
framework of green industries and occupations, "Understanding The
Green Economy in California: A Community College Perspective."
This study is designed to provide a common language when discussing the
green economy.
Also, in this bulletin, you'll find several new green studies as well
as a new interactive mapping tool created by the Environmental Defense
Fund.
We hope you are finding the COE e-bulletin informative and
interesting. Please feel free to send me any suggestions or
feedback.
Sincerely,

Theresa Milan

Understanding the Green
Economy: A Community College Perspective
California's community colleges will play a critical
role in training a green-collar workforce. This will require a
comprehensive understanding of the green industries and green jobs to
appropriately meet this challenge.
In Understanding
the Green Economy-A Community College Perspective, the COE approach to
studying green industries and occupations is mapped out, creating a
foundation for further study. This report defines green
industries and green occupations, classifies green clusters within
traditional industries, and identifies traditional occupations evolving
into green jobs.
